Murrumbidgee Council general manager, Craig Moffitt, said providing clean, safe drinking water was a top priority for council.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries – Water and NSW Health has sent forward the directive following the contamination of one of the two water bores in Darlington Point.
Since then the water has been monitored closely.
Mr Moffitt assured the safety of the drinking water quality had not be compromised, but said council isn’t taking any chances.
“We maintain a rigorous water quality program, with daily testing carried out by council and weekly tests by an independent testing lab,” he said.
“As a result of the directive from the two state departments the water supply in Darlington Point will continue to be chlorinated.
Mr Moffit finished by saying while he understands the public wants access to unchlorinated water, public safety has to be the number one priority.
Council is currently undertaking an assessment of the water supplies assets across the region to ensure compliance with Public Drinking Water Guidelines and to maintain a potable water supply for all three towns.
When the reviews have been finalised the results will be reported to council and residents will be notified of any proposed permanent changes to the towns water supplies if it becomes necessary.
