If you tried to count the number of volunteer groups they have been a part of, you’d be counting for a while.
The Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), Community Transport and the Men’s Shed are just a small sample of the groups Jan and Kevan are involved in.
And while the Boyles aren’t going anywhere, they both agreed there was a need for more volunteers.
“The trouble in small towns is, there’s no one really – if you want to get out – to take your spot,” Kevan said.
“Everybody’s in some organisation of some sort. There’s a lot of people out here who volunteer.”
They also agreed volunteering is one of most fulfilling things they have done.
"We just enjoy doing it,” Kevan said.
“You get great satisfaction from helping the elderly. It’s tremendously satisfying to do something for other people,” Jan added.
“People sit at home and feel their aches and pains but there’s so much volunteering to do. I think it’s part of your soul’s journey to get out on the road and help other people.”
While all the groups they are a part of need more volunteers, they said two stuck out.
“The VRA certainly need more volunteers. That’s not for everybody either. To turn up at a car crash where somebody’s trapped at any time isn't a good sight. You have to be a special sort of person to handle that,” Kevan said.
“The Men's Shed is another great organisation that could do with some more members, too,” Jan added.
