After the game coach, Craig Morriss spoke highly of their performance.

“They led from the front and steadied the ship,” he said.

“I thought the forwards played really good for us today. They had some good go forward and they were tough, so I thought that was really good for us,”

In what the coach described as an ill-disciplined game, both sides gave away their fair share of penalties and at one stage the Roosters were reduced to nine men with two players in the sin-bin and coach Ryan McGoldrick sent from the field.

The game started in close fashion with the Panthers getting on the board first after David Milne crashed over in the corner.

The sides went try for try with Daniel Williams answering quickly before Gospel Toru crossed for his first of the game to restore the Black and Whites lead.

From there the home side piled on the points making the most of their man advantage to score 18 unanswered points to go in with a 30-6 lead at the halftime break.

Black and Whites coach Craig Morriss said the goal at halftime was to calm his boys down.

“We spoke about discipline and just maintaining good football and not getting sucked into the rubbish,” he said.

“It didn't seem to work too well in the first 20 where we really let them back into the game.”

It looked as if DPC were going to come back into the game as they scored three quick tries through Jonathan Walker, Luke Hogan and Nicholas Briggs to bring the came back to within a try.

It was a close as the Roosters would get with the Black and Whites able to find their feet again scoring through Kodie Charles before Gospel Toru completed his double to wrap up the 42-24 win.

“It was good to win against the Point,” he said.

“They are a hard team. They had their captain-coach sent off which probably lessened the thing from the game, but that is just footy.”
