Griffith LAC allege a stolen 4WD was reversed into Mitre 10 on Palm Avenue at 1.45am causing extensive damage to the shopfront, with a number of tools stolen.
Owner’s Grant and Louise Johnstone are shocked by the damage, however are blown away by the show of support from the community.
“About 1.30am the ute reversed back through our front glass windows and doors, they were in and out in a minute and a half,” Mrs Johnstone said.
Mrs Johnstone said the damage more than anything left them shocked, but the cost of the tools and damage is covered by insurance.
“Even though this has happened, and we never like to think of these things happening, the support from the Leeton community has been absolutely amazing. The messages of support coming through just goes to show how caring this community really is,” she said.
“The Police have been amazing, the staff have been awesome, and a local builder has dropped everything to help us make the shop secure again.”
“It’s all been caught on security footage and forensics have been through for fingerprints, and the chainsaws can be tracked with their serial numbers.”
“We just thank our lucky stars no-one was injured.”
Around two hours after the incident, a burnt-out vehicle was located at a property in Yanco.
Police believe the vehicle was used in the robbery, and had been stolen from Yanco earlier in the night.
