March and April in ‘93 was a happening time for the area.
Here’s a glimpse of what was making news around the MIA:
- New rice varieties being developed at the Yanco Agricultural Institute, which are creating much interest amongst Riverina Rivegrowers, will be on display at the Murrumbidgee Rice Field Days next week.
- Staff at St Peter’s have opened up communication channels with parents of students by replacing the usual parent information nights with individual parent-teacher interviews.
- The following students have been elected to the Coleambally Central School student representative council: Kellie Robinson, Scott Baxter, Heidi Magner, Emily Hollamby, Michael Maloney, Kara Renno, Rodney Dunn, Naomi Clarke, Chelsea Baheramsjah, Sally Kerr, Matthew Fletcher, Liam McKay, Jessamin Brain, Jaye Baheramsjac, James Kember, Tracey Robinson, Clare Baxter and Oliver Black.
- DPC Roosters welcomes new coach John Pickering.
- Arthur ‘Artie’ Hone was presented live membership of Lions by Frank Whelan.
- The community health centre, playgroup and preschool were beneficiaries of $3000 raised at the annual Darlington Point Police Charity Golf Day.
- Consideration is being given to possibly concreting the surface of the sharp bend on the roadway through Darlington Point.
- Hi-trac pressured the previously unbeaten Marilyn’s to win the Coleambally summer touch competition 5-3.
- Paul Kelly and John Pickering were named in the Group 20 squad to play Group 17 on March 5. This game was played at Griffith and Steve Fattore was a late inclusion. The three were then picked in the Group 20 side to take on Group Nine.
- Chairman of Directors of Ricegrowers’ Co-operative Limited, Mr Ian Davidge, confirmed that the Co-operative would commence payments for paddy rice deliveries on April 6 at a rate of $94 per tonne cash for medium grain. This is after allowing for the Rice Marketing Board’s deductions.
- A Coleambally man pleaded guilty to the charge of sheep stealing in Griffith Local Court. He was fined $500 with court costs of $45 and placed on a two-year good behaviour bond.
- The Coly Blues played their first home game for the season, against Oaklans, and came away with two wins from the three games played.
