The Oar-Gee Lures manufacturer is urging all recreational anglers and the wider Riverina communities to learn more about the immediate needs and future of native fish in the Murrumbidgee River.

“I’m a strong advocate in including all water users in any dialogue about the planning and impact river flows have on our communities, especially our native fish,” Mr Lennon said.

“This forum will help people glean as much information as they can and to share those insights with others.”

The “Bidgee Fish and Flows Forum” has attracted speakers from DPI Fisheries NSW, the Office of Environment and Heritage, the Commonwealth Environmental Water Office, the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and Rivers and Wetlands.

With recreational fishing injecting a whopping $1.35 billion annually to the Murray Darling Basin, it’s small wonder initial responses have been overwhlemingly positive.

“To have this type of event come to Wagga is a big win for recreational fishers, community organisations and all stakeholder group who are invested in the way water is managed in the system for native fish.”

“We need recreational fishers to engage with agencies on issues such as carp control, black water events, cold water and fish screening."

Mr Lennon said the free event at Wagga RSL will give attendees the opportunity to ask questions of guest speakers, including National Carp Control Plan coordinator, Matt Barwick.
