St Peter’s Coleambally to get safer school pick up

St Peter’s Coleambally is set to get a new bus zone, with $60,000 allocated for the project.

In the past, buses picking up and dropping off students along the road has caused traffic congestion and presents safety issues for students and motorists alike.

Located along Currawong Crescent, the zone will be 31m long and 3.1m wide.

Principal Daniel Tuohey said the new bay would help with congestion.

“Usually we have buses backed up. It’s a concern for passing motorists and the kids,” Mr Tuohey said.

It was approved by Murrumbidgee Council at its October meeting.

General Manager Craig Moffitt hopes the new development  will ease safety concerns.

“Once we had the issue brought to our attention there was no doubt that this project should be a priority,” he said.

Construction is set to be carried out over the school holidays in January 2018.

Included in the works is the removal of the existing kerb and footpath.
