The 16-year-old Coleambally Central School student attended the Archery ACT presentation night on Saturday in Canberra to receive a gold medal for hwer win in the Cadet Women's Compound at the ACT State Indoor Championships last month.
The gold medal was in addition to the bronze medal Starr received at the Cadet Female Compound, when she made her first competition appearance at the 2013 National Indoor event held in July after being encouraged to enter by her head coach Ben Pawson.
It is no mean feat: Starr was 15 when she first attended Griffith City Archers come-and-try day at the Hanwood Sports Club in February.
Starr's brother, Angus, noticed she was closing the wrong eye for right-handed shooting and when Starr picked up the left-handed bow, she was firing well-grouped and positioned arrows every shot.
Training four times a week at Hanwood and juggling HSC studies and a part-time job, Starr's dedication to her chosen sport has seen her accelerate in her age category and the rewards are immense.
