The popularity of the West Wyalong Knockout continues to rise, with entries closed at the earliest time in the event’s long history.
Already 16 clubs have confirmed their place in the annual event, with two already waiting in the wings to take their place if one becomes available.
Group Nine clubs dominate the entries, filling seven of the places for the tournament to be held on February 27 and 28.
Premiers Gundagai are joined by 2014 knockout winners Albury, Southcity, Brothers, Kangaroos, Temora and Young.
Knockout spokesman Craig Sutton thought the heavy level of interest was a credit to the club and the facilities at Ron Crowe Oval.
“It’s fantastic to be full at this time of the year and not having to be searching for teams,” Sutton said.
“It shows the growing level of interest in the tournament and how it is conducted.
“It’s really exciting.”
West Wyalong is joined by fellow Group 20 clubs Tullibigeal Lakes United, Yenda and Leeton.
Defending champions Goulburn Workers are out to defend their crown alongside Canberra Raiders Cup rivals Woden and Queanbeyan Roos.
Forbes and Orange CYMS round out the field with Oberon and Cowra on the waiting list.
The teams will once again be playing for $12,000 in prizemoney, with $8000 going to the winner.
There has also been an increase in numbers for the leagutag competition with Sutton hoping to attract eight teams.
