Griffith police arrested three illegal residents at Darlington Point on Friday morning.
Highway patrol officers pulled over their car at 11.30am after the automatic number plate recognition system sounded the alarm.
According to the system, the car was used by people suspected of using a card-skimming device.
Acting Inspector Michael Shepherd from Griffith police said the driver handed over a Malaysian driver’s license and was found to be in Australia illegally.
“Police detained the people in the vehicle at Darlington Point Police Station while they conducted further inquiries,” Acting Inspector Shepherd said.
“Three of them were arrested and brought to Griffith Police Station where officers contacted immigration authorities.”
One was released and the other two were held for 24 hours until immigration officers arrived from Sydney to collect them.
