Darlington Point Men’s Bowling Club’s Singles Championship.
In this match Peter Jones and Steve Hoffman played Frank MacDonald and Bill King. The match proved to be evenly contested with Jones and Hoffman leading 10-9 after 10 ends. Jones and Hoffman then won the next four ends to lead 16-9. MacDonald and King were unable come back from there with the final score being 20-15. Jones and Hoffman are Champions for 2016.
Darlington Point Men’s Bowls Triples Championship
Terry Geeves, Trevor Hornery and Steve Rowlands played Kevin Williams, Jeff King and John Causon with Terry Geeves drawing the shot on the last end to win the game by one shot.
Paul Curphey, Brian Watts and Steve Fattore won their match against Peter Birmingham, Tyson Woods and Watts.
District Pairs Championship.
The Riverina District Pairs Championship was won by former Darlington Point bowler Dave Townsend and Jim Ovens from Hay.
Townsend and Ovens had a lucky escape in their first round match against Darlington Point pair Dave Painting and Terry Geeves.
Painting and Geeves were ahead by the proverbial mile with three end to play but dropped a series of multiple shots to hand the match to their opponents. In the second round Townsend and Ovens were against another Darlington Point Pair, reigning district Champions Peter Jones and Steve Hoffman.
Townsend and Ovens were not over awed by the reputation of their opponents and soon jumped away to a commanding lead. Jones and Hoffman fought back to be on even terms but Townsend and Ovens lifted to again kick away and win the match.
The third round again saw the Hay pair victorious against Darlington Point’s Wayne Parnell and Frank MacDonald.The Hay pair went on to account for two pairs from Leeton and District to claim the Championship. Another Darlington Point pair to perform well in this Championship were Derek Dykman and Peter Birmingham who made it to the semi-final before going down to Wayne Everett and Ross Reiher from Leeton and district.
