Seniors
The C Grade side had a pleasing start to its game but the Jets proved to be too strong for our girls.
Coach Mackie made a few changes to both the attack and defence positions which proved to have a positive effect on the team.
Annie Mader moved back into defence and put in an effective effort and was awarded both the Brolga voucher and the player’s player award.
The most exciting and entertaining game of the day was the A Reserve game with the two sides unable to be split after the full-time whistle sounded.
The scoreline see-sawed throughout the dying minutes of the match and Coly was relieved to take home two points and a 46-all draw.
The Brolga award for best on went to Lana Evans while the girls chose Kat Creek as their player’s player for her effort and impressive intercepts during the game.
The A Grade had a disappointing loss this week.
After a slow start, the girls left their comeback too late and couldn’t quite grab the win. Brianna Clark once again proved to be a dynamo through the circle court.
She worked overtime and was awarded best on while Tara Pound, who also put in a big effort, was voted the player’s player.
Juniors
The juniors joined the seniors in Ardlethan on Saturday to play the Northern Jets.
In trying conditions, the under 13s opened the day’s play. The Jets started strongly and took a sizeable lead into the first break. The Coly girls used the break to their advantage and returned to the court putting together some great passages of play and showed what they are capable of as they slowed the Jets scoring rate. The Jets prove to be too good on the day and took the win 34-17. Laura Mannes played a great game in defence, intercepting and rebounding the ball well, to take out the weekly award.
The under 15s were quite pleased with their end result even though it wasn’t a win. It was a huge improvement from their last game against the Jets and led at half-time following great efforts by all the players. However, the side couldn’t maintain this lead and went down by five goals. Danielle Mannes was awarded the canteen voucher for her consistent shooting and feeding into the circle.
The under 11s were the success story for the day with a 10-3 win – a much improved effort on last week. Michalla Bright played a great game in the centre, delivering the ball with efficiency, and took out the canteen voucher while Lily Painting was given the coach’s prize for sportsmanship.
Some of our youngest players competed in a scratch match with the little Jets on Saturday and had lots of fun showing off their developing skills.
The senior teams will host CSU this Saturday while the juniors will welcome Griffith White.
The Annual Casserole night will be held at the club on Saturday, July 30. If you are able to donate a casserole, please contact Kirby or Colleen prior to the evening.
