Coleambally’s 50th birthday celebrations in 2018 will have even more of a nostalgic theme, thanks to a dedicated group of historians receiving a welcome financial boost.
The Country Education Foundation of Coleambally-Darlington Point (CEF CDP) has received a Create NSW 2017 Cultural Grant award presented by the Royal Australian Historical Society towards the cost of an oral history project its members are working in.
Committee members have volunteered a significant amount of time for this project with the first interview held back in March, 2015.
The book and CD produced from these interviews and their transcripts will be released at Coleambally’s 50th Birthday celebrations on 8th June, 2018.
There were 33 applications for funding received by the Society with 18 being successful.
The Country Education Foundation of Coleambally-Darlington Point received the highest amount awarded - $5000. T
CEF CDP chairperson Penny Sheppard said the grant will be used to assist with publication costs.
“Our thanks go to community members who have taken part in interviews, lent photographs and shared their stories with their interviewers,” she said.
“We have a few interviews to complete, the final layout is underway and we look forward to completing the production of the next memorable step in the chronicling of Coleambally’s history and development.”
