The Nomads were on track to claim a straightforward victory on their home deck on Friday night against Exies, before the rain spoiled their match and leaving sides having to be satisfied with a draw.
It was a blow for the young guns, who were 2/45 after just eight over of their chase towards Exies measly total of 76.
Bryce Rogers had the bull by the horns, smashing his way to 20 not out from the early stages of Coly’s reply.
He had Jack Cullen (0 not out) at the other end with just 32 runs still needed for victory when the rain set in.
Earlier, Rogers also starred with the ball to put Exies well on the back foot.
The young all rounder tearing through the batting order to claim an impressive 3/20 with the new ball, including a maiden.
Coly’s tight bowling and discipline fielding had Exies reeling at 3/12, before the visitors began compiling a mini comeback.
However, contributions from the other Nomads, including Simon Toscan (1/7), Lachlan Fattore (1/7) and Hugh White (2/9) meant the Nomads claimed regular wickets and remained on top for the whole of innings.
Harrison McKinnon was also rewarded for some good work with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/6.
Third grade faces Hanwood on Saturday, in another home clash.
Hanwood has an indifferent season in all grades, but provided some highlights over the past couple of clashes defeating both Coro and Exies.
The key for Hanwood will be Ben Rowston, who looked the most damaging with the bat for his side during its unsuccessful clash with Coro last round.
Christopher Hayes (44) and James Buchanan (36) were the star performers for the local side the last time Coleambally and Hanwood met back in round three.
Rogers missed out at the top of the order, but has made large strides since moving down the order to number four.
Coly batted first and made 5/147(cc), and followed it up with a stunning bowling performance to restrict Hanwood to 8/83(cc) after its 20 overs.
The second grade returns to the field after a bye last week, desperate to stay in touch with the top four.
The Nomads go into the contest just one point behind fourth-placed Hanwood on the second grade ladder, and takes on fellow finals aspirant Leagues at Collina on Saturday.
