I also made a bold statement that my beloved Tigers (NRL) would make the finals and that Ford will win the V8’s and guess what, only one of these statements came to fruition and I am happy to say it was the fishing.

Tigers let me down and the Fords were robbed as always.

I am happy to say regarding the fishing I am going fairly regular, probably averages out to be about every three weeks.

Now, these fishing trips might only be a couple of hours down the river on a Sunday but unless you do it you would have no idea how much it can recharge your batteries.

I usually grab a mate and head west of Wagga, only half-an-hour or so, drop the boat in and sink some baits. Usually we discuss the worries of the world and how we would fix them in between catching a couple of fish.

We don’t even get up too early, head off around 9am and home by 1pm.

If I can’t find a mate, which can happen when you only have a couple, you go by yourself, do the exact same thing but I might cast a few spinner baits as well, nothing too strenuous and definitely no pressure fishing.

I did this last weekend with good old Sausage Fingers and in the couple of hours on the river we had landed and released 11 fish, cod and trout cod and no Mud suckers – yee ha.

They weren’t huge fish, with the biggest around the 55cm, but it was thoroughly enjoyable, quick, and easy.

Also had a couple of mates head east of Wagga to try their hand.

Now these blokes are avid casters and like getting up a bit earlier than me so they were on the water at around 6ish and they were casting surface lures.

After about the 10th cast Tulky hooked, landed and released a 103cm cod, fantastic fish on a surface lure and I am pretty sure that that fish made them stay longer than what they had anticipated.

Rest assured I would have done the same, and once again a couple of mates going fishing for a “couple” of hours on a Sunday.

What I am trying to say in a long winded way, is that a fishing trip doesn’t have to be a weekender or a week-long event to have a good time.

You don’t have to take bucket loads of drink or travel for hours to do it.

We have a magnificent fishery right at our doorstep and if more people took advantage of what is here who knows what may happen – maybe (if we wish really, really hard) another boat ramp where you don’t need a 4 X 4 even in dry weather.

THE Miami Boat show has been on over the past week – would love to say I was there but alas, I was not.

There have been a few new model motors released and in typical American-style they are all high horsepower.

These motors from different manufactures and are all V6s punching up to 300hp naturally aspirated.

Don’t think there will be too many sold out in the country, but you never know, they become available in Oz later this year for those who are interested.

I know I am always writing about boat based anglers – I sell boats, therefore I can – but a couple of Wagga locals were land-based angling at Burrinjuck last weekend and landed a 113cm cod.

So even though boat fishing is a must for all anglers, you don’t have to take it with you every time you go (even though you should).

The percentage of water at Blowering is getting very close to the height I am waiting for so soon, very soon (I hope) you will see me cuddling a metery, so get out there and wet a line.
