The team of 12 enthusiastic community members who donated a very significant $10,000 to each Can Assist branch respectively.
A cheque was presented to each Can Assist Branch after a most successful weekend.
Can Assist would like to sincerely thank the organising committee for their hard work and their dedication and effort in organising such a large event with proceeds going to a community charity.
The Riverina Classic fishing competition commenced on Friday the 9th February on the beautiful Murrumbidgee River at the lovely town of Darlington Point with entrants continuing through to Sunday morning 11th February.
There were over 500 competitors in total, coming from as far afield as Western Australia.
Entrants had the opportunity of winning a fishing boat and motor package for seniors and for the junior entrants a tinny with a small motor that can be operated with no requirements for registration.
The event aims at giving everyone a good weekend out, especially for junior competitors, with every junior angler who caught a native fish receiving a fishing rod and all other juniors receiving a prize.

Organisers have taken care so as not to over fish our river system with the release of a total of 13,000 cod and yellow belly fingerlings.
The first release of fingerlings should be of adequate size for next year’s competition.
Some prizes were purchased by the Riverina Classic and others donated by their generous sponsors. Rivcott was the major sponsor of the Riverina Classic with many other local businesses supporting the event.
The Riverina Classic conducted a raffle over the past 3 months with a prize pool of over $12,000 and a lucky draw system with a prize pool of $50,000 including items such as canoes, eskies, fishing items, vouchers, camping chairs, gazebos, hamper packs and much more.
The weekend catered not only for anglers but for the wider community. They hosted markets which included helicopter joy rides, stalls, a jumping castle, train rides for the kids, live music and a variety of food items.
Can Assist members put in many hours of fundraising to offer financial assistance to any community citizen with a cancer diagnosis. Assistance is given to help cover the costs of transport, medication, hospital and cancer treatment.
If you or a family member has been diagnosed with a cancer and need financial support, please contact your respective Can Assist branch.
