The funding comes as part of the Stronger Communities fund, aimed at helping rural and regional communities. 

Darlington Point will continue the town’s strong sporting culture, benefiting with improved and recreation and sporting infrastructure. 

These improvements include the upgrading of change rooms and the addition of female toilets at the local sports complex. 

Coleambally will receive facility upgrades to the centre of town as part of the “Pride of Place” project.

Murrumbidgee Council have confirmed this refers to a number of streetscape works, toilet block upgrades and some architectural works along the streetscape. 

Between the two towns Coleambally and Darlington Point will receive roughly $445000 in funding combined. 

Murrumbidgee General Manager Craig Moffitt said Council was pleased to receive funding to assist in supporting communities within the area. 

“This allocation will complete some of our highest priorities, supporting refurbishment of sporting facilities and upgrading of central community areas,” he said. 

Jerilderie is also set to benefit from improvements to the Jerilderie Race Club and Showground amenities. 

The Stronger Country Communities fund is one of the six funds that make up the NSW Government’s $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund.

Among the community groups to benefit from last year’s funding efforts were the Coleambally Lions Club, Coleambally Preeschool and Heritage Darlington Point and Darlington Point Lions Club. 

The fund is designed to improve economic growth and productivity through investment in regional communities.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the fund targets smaller-sized projects that nevertheless have the capacity to make a big difference to the lives of country people.

“The NSW Government is committed to supporting the people of regional NSW, by investing in the facilities, parks, halls and playgrounds they need, want and deserve,” Mr Barilaro said.

Round two of the funding opens in March.
