The duo are this year's school captains at St Peter's Primary School in Coleambally.

In their final year of primary school, they decided to step up because they wanted to be able to “be kinder and represent the school”. 

Linda says it’s important to model good leadership because younger kids have their eye on older students. 

“It’s important to be kind and help each other. The little kids watch what you do when you’re older” she said. 

“We help them out if they need it, and the teachers too … it’s about being kind and representing the school.” 

The each candidate for captain has to give a speech in front of a crowd, they’re then voted on by their peers. 

Oscar admitted getting up in front of a crowd could be daunting, but he’s gotten better at it.

“You get a bit nervous at first, but I’m getting used to it,” he said.

“We get to get up and thank people at assemblies or if they visit the school we greet them … finding out I got school captain was pretty cool.”

Both students are looking forward to marching with their school in the ANZAC Day parade coming up. As captains, they’ll help out on the day.

They’ve both enjoyed stepping up and assisting where they can.

“We get to march with everyone and help out with different things,” Oscar said. 

 It’s cool to represent your school around town and in the community.”
