The first grade side went down in a nail-biting preliminary final against Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo Sharks.
Coach Ryan McGoldrick says the side will be looking for a top place finish.
“We were unlucky last season in that we had a bit of a run with injury at critical points during the season,” he said.
The team will kick off their year with the first round of the Paul Kelly Memorial Shield this weekend.
McGoldrick took up the Roosters coaching job again last year after a season out of the role.
He left the club in 2016 to link up with Lower Clarence in the Northern Rivers competition after coaching the Roosters to the Group 20 grand final in 2015.
“It was still great to make the finals in the way we did.”
He’s hopeful new recruits will help the club along.
“We’re looking to bring three new recruits out from England,” he said.
“Some of the guys we’ve had out here in the past have spoken highly of the club. It’s great to be able to bring them over.”

There are also some younger players who McGoldrick feels are in for a big year.
“Luke Hogan and Sam Barter both played their first year in the top side last year. I think they’re both in for a good season,” he said.
Last season saw a number of younger players step up to the plate and Matt Kelly also walking away with Rookie of the Year in the Group 20 competition.
The team will kick off their year with the first round of the Paul Kelly Memorial Shield this weekend.
There’s another familiar face McGoldrick is excited to have back on board.
“Winger Dave Charles is back with us after a few years away, so it’ll be great to see him back out there too,” he said.
McGoldrick says the goal for the year ahead is simple.
“We’re hoping to build on everything we achieved last year and try to keep the roster injury free.”
