Committee member Joe Briggs says the group has the full support of Murrumbidgee Council, but are still in the process of finding funding and a new home.
“It’s good to say we’ve got council’s full support for the facilities but the site is still to be announced. We’re looking for funding to be announced,” he said.
With 70 members and counting, Coly’s gym is looking to expand even further. They’re looking to build their own site.
This week they met with Council to present a case to gain funding under the State Government’s Stronger Communities funding.
The gym run as a non-profit group and is funded by member’s fees. It was just over established three years ago as part of a community effort.
The gym even has a personal trainer, running around 12 classes per week for residents of all ages.
Mr Briggs said the community has gotten right behind the cause since announcing the search for a new home late last year.
“We’ve had heap of letters of support. The local Member Austin Evans is right behind us as well,” he said.
“It’ll make the gym a permanent fixture in the town. It can be really important in improving and maintaining mental health and wellbeing for residents.”
He said it gym also served Coleambally, being the avid sports town it is.
“Jack Cullen is one example. We want to help him out where we can with his footy success. Without a facility like this, he’d have to travel to work out or it takes him out of the race,” he said.
“It’s a big benefit for any up and coming sports players. The gym in the nearest town would be Griffith and it’s a two hour round trip.”
