Not only will bragging rights be up for grabs on the football field, but also on the netball court when the two competitions meet in the representative fixture at Robertson Oval.
Star Temora shooter Jordan Barrett said just like the football, Farrer League will have plenty to prove on the court.
“They always say that the Riverina League is stronger, but we actually beat them two years ago in the round robin game so we’re hoping we can do it again,” Barrett said.
“But I know the Riverina side have got quite a strong side this year.”
Farrer League have named a tall squad, headed by shooting pair – Barrett and CSU’s Sarah Hooper, along with the O’Leary sisters from The Rock-Yerong Creek.
Barrett is confident the Farrer League team will prove more than competitive.
“We’re good, we’ve probably had a few girls that have had to pull out due to injuries and stuff like that but I think we’ve got good height down both ends so it should be a good competition,” she said.
“(Our strength) will be hopefully our two shooters, we’ve got height there, as well as Tessa (Hamblin) in the centre court, hopefully she can direct our play and have quite good hands over the ball.”
Riverina League vice-captain Jess Allen does not subscribe to one competition being any stronger than the other.
She expects fierce competition from Farrer League.
“It should be good playing against other Wagga leagues, it’s always interesting,” Allen said.
“There’s not really too much difference I don’t think.
“The RFL obviously wants to be known as the better Wagga league and I guess we’ll find out on Saturday.”
Allen, who plays at the defensive end, knows she has a tough task in front of her trying to contact the Farrer shooters.
“I’m a bit nervous but it’s always a good challenge coming up against Jordie and Sarah Hooper. We’ll have to work pretty hard,” she said.
Players had to try out to win selection in the Riverina League team.
Allen is happy with the Riverina League team that will take to the court.
“It’s really strong,” she said.
“We had a lot of girls come to try outs so it was really hard for the coach to pick a team but I think any team we put on the court on the day will be a good team.”
