The Hawks finished 24.9 (153) to 4.1 (25) winners, after back-to-back losses in which they failed to kick a final-quarter goal.
Brocke Argus finished with eight and Nick Hull six as leaders Ben Absolum and Chris Gordon led the side to a strong win.
“They’re obviously a bit light on troops but we ran the game out. We started okay but we finished strong so that was the main thing,” Hawks coach Matt Hard said.
“We got plenty of confidence out of that. The main thing at half-time was to make sure we were consistent through the game. We defended well and we ran in numbers and created opportunities so that was good.”
Tom Pocock across half-back was also good for the Hawks as well as youngsters Keigan King and Harrison Leddin.
Tom Groves led the Blues well while young Blues forward Jack Cullen kicked two goals and caught the eye.
“He looks like he’s got a bright future. He looked good and I think he’ll be a very good footballer,” Hard said of the bright Coleambally prospect.
The Blues face off against Barellan next week while the Hawks are looking forward to the bye.
Encouragingly, James Hodges and Chris Jackson returned in reserve grade and are likely to be in the mix for selection in the next month. Hodges kicked nine goals in the twos, and it might easily have been many more.
