Coly’s quilting club opted to showcase its favourite pieces and a special gallery paid tribute to the town’s artists.
Coleambally Quilting Club’s Gail Hibbert said the club had chosen a range of pieces to represent cross-sections of what they do.
“Some of the quilts take up to 12 or 18 months to make. Some of them might have been in the cupboard for years, half-done and have been finished recently,” she said.

“Depending on the quilt, some could take 12 months, three or four months or they could have been worked at off-and-on for years. No quilt is made in a day.”
Tying everything into the anniversary celebrations, the group exhibited a special section based around the theme ‘what Coleambally means to me’.
“All our members have displayed quilts made in the last 18 months that haven’t been shown anywhere else,” she said.
Down the street in the community hall, a diverse range of pieces were curated by Coleambally-based artist Kerri Weymouth.
When asked, Ms Weymouth couldn’t pick a favourite piece. She said Coly had a history of great, local artists.
“We had a strong group of artists here years ago. Some of them are still with us. They were a big part of the community,” she said.
