The Heritage Green Energy Grants will offer up to $100,000 each to sites to help them become more energy efficient.
“These Heritage Green Energy Grants will offer up to $100,000 per application to help owners or managers of heritage buildings that are listed as a heritage item at a Council or State level to bring these places up to speed when it comes to energy efficiency,” Mr Evans said.
“Building age, materials, type of construction, size, shape and site orientation all play a role in how heritage buildings perform in terms of energy efficiency, so this program will incentivise building managers to think about how their building can be improved.”

Speaking with General Manager of the Murrumbidgee Council, Craig Moffitt we discovered there are 19 heritage-listed sites in Jerilderie alone and three at Darlington Point which he encourages to apply for the grant.
Mr Moffitt said that Printery, the heritage-listed site the Council owns, has a very low power consumption and may not qualify for the grant, but he would like to see others apply such as the Willows Museum – which was recently successful in acquiring a $90,000 grant to restore the integrity of the building – the Royal Mail Hotel, the public school, churches, and others.
“In most cases it’s a very worthwhile proposition,” he said.
The grants, totalling $1.5 million, aim to make heritage items more energy efficient.
Mr Evans encourages heritage-listed buildings in the Murrumbidgee area to consider applying.
