CanAssist volunteer Sue Hardy explained the role of the charity in the community.
“We’re one of 52 branches in NSW and members do activities throughout the year to raise funds for local people who have had a cancer diagnosis,” Mrs Hardy said.
“CanAssist are called on to help support the community when finances are stretched; in travel expenses, medication expenses, and so on.”
Each year the charity also finds a guest speaker to take part in the event.

This year, local dietitian and nutritionist Amanda Mannes, who practises in Coleambally, Leeton and Griffith, came by to support the cause.
Mrs Hardy said she chose Ms Mannes as she thought she would be a great voice to speak on not only losing weight, but nutrition and “getting the best out of our foods”.
“We always look for someone interesting for our community,” she said.
As always, the charity served sandwiches, cakes, slices, tea and coffee.
Mrs Hardy said CanAssist are always very well supported in the community.
“The community is very, very generous.”
