The 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with seven offences, including break and enters, committing serious offenses at commercial properties, having stolen goods in custody and various driving offences.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Griffith Local Court today (July 23).

Chief Inspector John Wadsworth said it was an excellent result for the Griffith business community.

“A lot of resources went into finding the person or persons responsible for the break ins that were occurring throughout Griffith, and it was through good police work that we now have a person in custody,” he said.

While he said this arrest was in relation to the break and enters in commercial properties across Griffith, inquiries are continuing in relation to other similar offences around the MIA district.

It comes after director of Greengecko Joseph Taliano urged all other businesses in the area to be aware of the break ins occurring after their business was targeted.

“I just want other businesses to be aware that this is going on, and to take all precautions in securing their buildings,” Mr Taliano said last week.

“These thieves know what they are looking for… We are no longer the small town we used to be.”

Police had reports of seven break and enters across the MIA – four of which were in the Griffith area, with the possibility of more not reported.
