DPC were bested despite a strong performance. The younger-looking side had five under 18’s players lace up their boots in the seniors for the first time.
Luke Hogan, Jonathan Walker, Morgan Punchard and Tyrone Blanchette each scored one try apiece, while Josh Veivers managed to put away five goals.
Thomas Fattore, Lachlan Pengelly, Danny Brain, Jake Foster and Cooper Smith all lined up as seniors over the weekend.
Seniors coach Ryan McGoldrick said the weekend’s side put in their best efforts.
We have five under 18’s that played their debut … It was our best overall performance of the year,” he said .
“It was all about football and sort of turned out to be a really good day and a really good day to play.”
While McGoldrick said it had been a less-than-stellar year results-wise, it has proven an important building block for the future of the club.
“It’s been a disappointing year, results wise. I don’t think you could sugar coat that,” he said.
“They’ll be better off for the experiences they had this year. All the blokes who came up to the seniors over the season are looking to be regular names this year.”
He’s sure next season will bring a clean slate and an important lesson learned.
“The tough year a few of them have had will shape them going forward.”
The senior side will have next week off before taking on the Hawks.
