Cypress View Lodge is currently running a survey to garner community interest in the project. 

Lodge’s facility manager Karen Hodgson said while a council-run bus makes the trip fortnightly, there are plenty of community members who could benefit. 

“I’m just trying to gauge if there is an interest out there. We have clients that could use it. I know of a few of NDIS clients that need to get into Griffith a couple of times a week. We’re just looking into how many people would use the service,” she said.  

“My view is that it would run every weekday, Monday to Friday. It would be open to everyone as well.”

Not only would the service look to provide accessible transport, it would also be readily available for anyone within the wider community. 

Sue Harris takes her son 15-year-old to Griffith for TAFE one day per week. If their schedules conflict, they’re left scrambling to find a lift. 

“I’ve got a son who has taken on an apprenticeship at an early age. When we both start at the same time, we’ve got to rely on trying to find find lifts,” she said. 

“It would be amazing. I know there are some school kids who travel. It’s not age-related. It’s a general transport bus for everyone. You’ve got a lot of mums with prams who could have a day in town.” 

The survey is currently available through Facebook on the I live in Coleambally and Darlington Point buy swap and sell pages. Physical copies can be picked up from Cypress View Lodge and Stitch in Time. 

Ms Hodgson said she would be looking at looking at the responses over the coming weeks. 

”Regular transport is just not readily available, particularly accessible transport. It’s not available to get in and out of Griffith. If you can get community transport, that’s fine but not everyone is eligible,” she said. 

“We’re in discussion with the Lions Club to look at ways of funding the bus. There won’t be an age limit. It would be a service open to everyone.”
