This long weekend the community will again come alive with the Barellan Good Old Days weekend, which is known for its many interesting demonstrations, activities and heavy horses.
One of the main highlights this year will be the inaugural Furphy Festival where more than 70 furphys of all different models will take part various competitions as both a static and working display.
The usual re-barrelling of a number of furphys will take place, as well as a reenacting of the famous furphy photo.
With bookings for camp oven meals already sold out for the Saturday night, the committee has decided to the extend meals offered.
People from across the country are set to attend, with a representative from each Australian state and territory attending and plenty of camping is still available.
Publicity officer Carl Chirgwin said Saturday night under the stars would be the true Australian way to celebrate the long weekend, with camp fires roaring, Barellan Beer on tap and local band The Cold Cowboys pumping out the tunes.
“Once you pay at the gate all attractions and experiences are free for people to enjoy,” he said.

“We love to see people bring their camping set ups and stay and have fun with us.
“There will be market stalls, old style children’s games, animal petting nursery, vintage working shed, heritage home demonstrations, scone making on the old wood stoves, plenty of ring events, bullock cueing competition, a grand parade, dog trials, camel races and much more.
“New to our event this year will be a portable ATM for people’s convenience.”
As well as the event having plenty to see and do, the benefits for the Barellan community are also extensive.
“With up to five to 6000 people attending, the economic influx to the town is enormous,” Mr Chirgwin said.
“We only have locals doing the catering and beverages, all money raised is kept within the community”.
The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Barellan showground.
