It looked like it would be a long afternoon when Exies won the toss and batted, and Dan Brady and Scott Campbell set about getting their side to a big total.
The pair were able to put on 72 for the opening stand before Phil Turtle took three quick wickets, picking up the important wicket of Brady (43) and following it up by picking up Lyle Campbell (1) and Cameron Harrison (0) while Sam Breed (1/19) dismissed Scott Campbell (34).
Mitchell Wiseman was the next to fall victim to the bowling of Turtle before Gavin Woods, and Jimmy Mann pushed Exies towards a competitive total.
It was a 23-run partnership which lifted Exies to 121 before Woods became Turtle’s (5/36) fifth wicket for the day while two quick wickets to Chris Hayes (2/0) brought Exies innings to a close with the score on 128 off 27.4 overs.
Coleambally made a good start in their chase with Jack Weymouth-Smith and Cooper Smith putting on 26 runs for the first wicket before Harrison dismissed Smith (3).
Weymouth-Smith and Turtle continued to build the Nomads innings as the side got past 50 before Turtle (1) was caught by Scott Campbell off the bowling of Harrison (2/18).
The batting of Weymouth-Smith was the driving force for the Nomads while Sri Puram was able to play an excellent supporting role as the pair put on 29 before the bowling of John Gallagher started to cause issues.
With the Nomads looking in a strong position to pick up a victory, Gallagher (5/35) picked up the vital wicket of Puram (23) while Brady (3/23) was also crucial as he picked up the wicket of Weymouth-Smith (57), Sam Casey (11) and Hayes (15).
The Coleambally side lost their final six wickets for 21 runs to fall 13 runs short of victory.
Diggers are the opposition for round two as the Nomads will loo to make the most of two home games in a row to start the season.
Diggers will be looking to bounce back after a 26-run loss at the hands of Leagues Club.
