After winning the toss and electing to bat the Nomads lost three quick wickets as Cooper Smith (0) fell to the bowling of Chris Barbagallo (1/33) while Phil Turtle (0) and Lachlan Vogan (2) fell to the bowling of Shannon Caughey.
Needing to find their feet quickly the Nomads found resistance through Kurt Wielderaayer and Sam Casey who saved their side from a tough situation with a 41-run stand.
When Wielderaayer (20) became Caughey’s (3/35) third victim it triggered another three quick wickets as Mitchell Wiseman (0) was dismissed by Sam Robinson (2/13) and Casey (28) fell to Luke Catanzariti (3/30).
Shaun Iddles (40) added some late runs to see the Nomads eventually bowled out for 120 in 30 overs.
The Nomads needed to take wickets early if they wanted to have any chance of defending their total but Hanwood openers Neil Geltch and Charlie Simpson had other ideas.
It was an opening stand of 40 before Chris Hayes (1/18) struck to remove Geltch (21) while Simpson (28) fell to the bowling of Casey (1/15) with the score on 65.
Neil Burke (2/16) was able to pick up the wickets of Robinson (13) and Morgan Tiere (0) while Michael Agnew (3) was caught and bowled by Turtle (1/29) but Leon Tiere (39*) was able to be the guiding light for Hanwood as they picked up a five-wicket win with 5.4 overs remaining.
The Nomads will return to Coleambally this weekend as they look to take on second-placed Leagues Club.
Leagues suffered their first loss of the second-grade season after a convincing performance from Exies.
Shane Makea (40), Teei Piawi (32), Taimoor Akbar (21*) and Kierren Williams (19) did the scoring for the Panthers, but tight bowling from Adam Waide (3/19) and Rodney Bordin (2/7) helped restrict Leagues to 9/146 off their 40 overs.
Dan Brady (39) ensured his side made a strong start while contributions from J Power (31), Lyle Campbell (27) and Waide (12) to see Exies pass the Panthers total with five wickets in 32.2 overs.
