Collingullie-Glenfield Park will unfurl their latest premiership flag at Crossroads Oval in round one when they host Griffith.
It continues a growing tradition in AFL Riverina of having the grand finalists face off to open the new season.
It won’t happen in the Farrer League however with reigning premiers Marrar having the bye in the first round.
The Bombers requested the round one bye to a clash with a wedding.
Marrar will unfurl their premiership flag at home at Langtry Oval in round two when they host North Wagga in a rematch of last year’s grand final.
The biggest clash of the Farrer League opening round appears to be Charles Sturt University (CSU) at home to Temora, the only game that features two of last year’s finalists.
Marrar and The Rock-Yerong Creek will again play under lights at Robertson Oval in the annual Anzac Challenge. It will be in round four.
East Wagga-Kooringal and North Wagga will play the following day in their Anzac fixture.
In the Riverina League, the game between Turvey Park and Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes is sure to draw plenty of interest after an interesting off-season for both clubs.
The Riverina League season begins on April 13, with one round to be held before a general bye for Easter.
As reported in The Daily Advertiser, there will be a one-off showpiece game on the Easter weekend with Turvey Park to host traditional rival Wagga Tigers on Good Friday.
Both clubs will then take an extra bye in round seven, the Queen’s birthday long weekend.
Representative football has been scheduled for May 18 with a general bye in both competitions.
Farrer League will again get underway a week earlier than the Riverina League with an April 6 start.
The Farrer grand final is on September 14, and will avoid a clash with Ag Races, with the Riverina decider on September 21.
The Riverina League draw may still be amended when it comes to Saturday and Sunday games as clubs look to pursue same day football and netball opportunities.
The South West junior draw will be released prior to Christmas with the Wagga and District juniors fixture will be released early next year once the competition structures are finalised.
