Reverend Kirk will be made the 11th bishop for the Diocese of Riverina following his consecration in June.
The consecration ceremony will be held at St Alban's Cathedral in Griffith and will be attended by bishops from across the country.
Formerly the Rector of the Hamilton Parish in Victoria, and an Archdeacon of the South West Dioceses, Reverend Kirk will be moving to Griffith with his wife Camryn.
The Reverend was selected to become the bishop-elect of the Diocese of Riverina from among a number of candidates following a special meeting of synod in February.
During the meeting the heads of all the 23 Anglican dioceses across the country cast their votes as to who should get the job.
When asked what his plans are for the region following his consecration, Reverend Kirk said he expects to be doing a lot of driving between his new parishes.
"I've been ordained as a priest for 33 years and have always enjoyed ministry and all of the joys and challenges, and my hope is that I will enjoy ministry as a bishop in the same way," Reverend Kirk said.
"I'll be clocking up a lot of kilometers on the road and will be meeting a lot of people, it's an interesting challenge of ministry to provide pastoral care and oversight to the far flung rural parts of the state.
"What I hope to do is give (parishioners) a sense of belonging to a wider church, to represent the wider church to them and connect them to the wider church, it's one of those things that is really important to feel a sense of belonging to a wider movement than ourselves."
While he himself has never been to Coleambally, Reverend Kirk said he has had the pleasure of meeting Reverend Sue Ellen before and is excited to visit the Parish.
"I have to first learn what the (Parish's) needs might be, I will be listening to people's needs and concerns."
