A former foster care worker has been arrested and charged in Griffith this morning over alleged physical abuse of an infant in her care.

Following extensive investigations, a 37-year-old woman was arrested at Griffith Police Station about 10am on Thursday.
An investigation commenced in October last year after a 13-month-old girl presented to hospital with a fractured skull, fractured wrists, and bruising.
Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation, with charges laid for recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.
Police will allege in court the woman physically abused the infant, who was in her care at the time.
The woman was refused bail and will appear at Griffith Local Court today.
Alternative care arrangements were made for the infant girl last year.
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
