Staff on the train had spoken to the thugs over antisocial behaviour before they got off the train at Heyington station in Toorak about 5.30pm on Saturday, police say.
The duo is accused of attacking the 60-year-old man near the station before fleeing.
Police have released their images in hopes they will hand themselves into police.
