With just two and a half minutes gone the Roosters were able to break the deadlock with Ben Jeffrey getting across the line, but the visiting Hawks got the scores back level seven minutes later after they stretched the Roosters defence and created a gap for Levi Freeman to run into.
The Roosters were able to retake the lead with Tony Leadbitter getting the ball down before being pushed into touch before the DPC side made the most of a repeat set late in the first half with Drew Hopwood using his strength to push over the line to give the Roosters a 16-6 lead at the break.
Hopwood crossed for his second of the afternoon not long after the halftime interval before both sides were reduced to 12-men with Josh Veivers from the Roosters and Jone Tabaiwalu from Yanco Wamoon sent to the sin bin.
The Roosters were able to extend their lead with the added space as Ben Jeffery crossed for his second of the afternoon to see the home side leading 28-6 win 21 minutes remaining.
Liam Bowker was able to give the Hawks some hope after a smart dart from dummy half saw him get over in the corner. Push and shove near the sideline opened up the field for Tabaiwalu who took full advantage to close the gap to 28-18 but it was too late as the final siren sounded not long after.
DPC's skipper Josh Veivers knows that these are crucial points.
"We spoke about this being a massive game for us all week for the rest of our season with Yanco being in third spot and us being in fourth," he said.
"It was a four-point game, and we are happy to pick it up."
With some other results from the weekend going the way of the Roosters including the Black and Whites beating West Wyalong it has opened up the race for the remaining spot in the top two.
"We will just concentrate on ourselves," he said.
"We know that if we are able to string a couple of results together, then the ladder will take care of itself."
Veivers was pleased with his side's performance in being able to play out the full 80 minutes.
"It was the most complete effort that we have had all year," he said.
"We didn't really have that lapse of 20-30 minutes that we have been doing and letting games get away from us."
The Roosters will look to carry their momentum when they take on TLU next weekend while Yanco-Wamoon has the weekend off.
