The CICL Grant Latta Bonded Scholarship has been offered by Coleambally Irrigation in conjunction with the Country Education Foundation of Coleambally-Darlington Point.
Chairperson of the Country Education Foundation of Coleambally-Darlington Point Penny Sheppard said the scholarship aims to reduce the costs involved with further education and thanked Coleambally Irrigation for providing a means in which students can achieve their goals.
"It's so expensive to send kids away for university," Mrs Sheppard said.
"They [Coleambally Irrigation] are a local company and have provided a tremendous opportunity."
The scholarship intends to cover expenses related to university study, including accommodation, textbooks, specialist equipment and travel.
The successful recipient will receive $5000 if they are entering their first year of university, with the scholarship increasing to $7500 a year for the remainder of their course, while a successful recipient in later years of their degree will receive $7500 a year for the remainder of their degree.
Mrs Sheppard said the successful recipient will gain paid experience working for Coleambally Irrigation during their university breaks while also securing a position post graduation for up to three years after they finish their degree.
"We are bringing back trained people to the community," she said.
The scholarship is named after former Coleambally Irrigation director Grant Latta, who retired in October 2018 after 11 years of service to the company.
The scholarship was first offered for the 2019 academic year.
Applications for the scholarship will open on September 1 and close on November 30 and is open to students who either attend Coleambally Central School or reside in the Coleambally and Darlington Point areas.
