The 82-year-old, from NSW's Central Coast, was one of hundreds of people who filled Sydney's Martin Place on Monday morning for the state's annual Remembrance Day service.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks when Germany signed a truce in France in 1918, ending the First World War, which was hoped to be "the war to end all wars".

After a rendition of the Last Post a minute's silence fell over the square on Monday at 11am to mark the agreement.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Governor Margaret Beazley attended the service and laid wreaths on the Sydney Cenotaph.

Also in attendance were other government officials, Australian defence force and emergency service representatives, and state representatives from the Returned Service League, War Widows Guild, and other ex-service organisations.

Dressed in black and wearing white gloves with three rows of medals on her chest, Ms Wake said for her, "every day is Remembrance Day".

Early in her life, Ms Wake and her mother moved in with her grandfather, whose family, she said, became her own and who she has represented at war dedication services for at least the past 50 years.

"It could be a word, it could be a song ... the war songs were my nursery songs, and that's how I grew up with all the war songs and the stories," she told AAP.

"I've never been without them."

Kevin Cram, 82, wore his own medals as well as those of his father and two uncles, one of whom he believes served in Gallipoli, to Monday's service.

Attending the service was a tradition, he said.

"I started off going to the dawn service before I was even out of short pants," Mr Cram said.
