Farming households struggling with drought will be able to access payments of up to $3000 under a government initiative.

Farrer MP Sussan Ley on Sunday announced a funding package covering shires including Carrathool, Hay, Murrumbidgee, Narrandera and Leeton.
The one-off payments can be used to cover living costs including energy bills, health expenses, groceries and vehicle maintenance.

Ms Ley said the applications could be made through St Vincent de Paul Society and the Salvation Army, depending on the area.
"Our government understands agricultural regions over most of NSW have been doing it tough because of the drought," she said.
"Registrations are now open for affected farmers, farm workers, contractors and suppliers."
Applicants must be over 18 and live and work in one of the identified council areas.
The money is made available through the federal government's Drought Community Support Initiative.
