Murrumbidgee Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers pulled over a Holden sedan heading north on Jondaryan Avenue at 1.30am on Saturday morning for a random breath test and licence check.
When police informed the driver - a 54-year-old man from Darlington Point - why he was stopped and asked for the driver to produce a licence, the man informed police he was unable to produce a licence and he was on his way to the hospital as he was unwell, also declining the officer's offer to call an ambulance as he did not 'want to bother' the service.
After the man's breath test returned a negative result, police then asked the man to confirm his address and name in order to facilitate an identification check, which returned confirmation the man had never held a valid NSW driving licence.
The man had previously held a driving licence in Queensland, but the licence had expired in 1986.
A further check of the vehicle's registration revealed the sedan the man was driving was no longer registered, with the registration expiring at the end of 2019, and the man has been charged with similar offences four times previously, with some of the matters in the process of being dealt with in the courts.
The driver was issued with a notice to attend court and a traffic infringement notice.
In other police news, A man has been told action may be taken if required after police and members of the Griffith Fire and Rescue squad were called to a backyard fire on Speirs Street on Sunday.
Police were called to the property just after 3pm after a fire was spotted in the backyard of a home along the road, with Fire and Rescue members in attendance shortly after to extinguish the fire.
The owner of the property was contacted and informed police they were at the site cleaning and preparing to vacate the property and ready it for sale before leaving at 2.30pm for a short time.
Fire and Rescue have indicated they may take further action if required.
