A NSW police statement said Mr Slennett, aged 34 from Griffith, died on Monday.

Mr Slennett's family had earlier posted on social media that his life support would be turned off and they would donate his organs.

"Shortly after 11am on July 31, officers from Murray River Police District were called to a property on Carrathool Road, Conargo, following reports a helicopter had collided with power lines," a NSW police statement said.

"The pilot, a 34-year-old man from Griffith, was briefly trapped inside the helicopter while crews worked to clear the power lines.

"The pilot was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man passed away earlier today."

Tributes have flowed for Riverina pilot and "good bloke" Dan Slennett who sustained catastrophic injuries in a helicopter crash last week.

Mr Slennett was in a critical condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Sunday evening, after the helicopter he was flying crashed near Conargo on Friday.

His family have posted on social media that his life support will be turned off and his organs used to help others.

He will be dearly missed at the Carrathool Jockey Club where he is affectionately known as 'Condo' for his native Condobolin.

Club secretary Boo Harvey said Mr Slennett was a likeable character - always good for a laugh, sincere and genuine.

He came to the area as a jackaroo at the Riverina's Uardry property in the late 2000s and would go on to become a member of the club in recent years.

"He was always just happy to help with whatever needed to be done," Ms Harvey said.

She said Mr Slennett was a devoted community member who was always willing to donate his time, such as spraying the weeds on the racetrack. "He was well liked [and] friends with quite a few of the committee members," Ms Harvey said.

Mr Slennett's helicopter was reported to be conducting aerial spraying operations when it struck a power line.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the crash.
