NSW's Central Tableland's Brad De Losa continues to excel on the woodchopping circuit and is gearing up to swing his axe in St Kilda, Melbourne, on Saturday, May 8 for the Stihl Timbersports Australian Trophy.

The Lithgow local recently took the title of the 375mm World Single Handed Sawing Championship at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and has since been in preparation for his Melbourne trip.

"I've just been doing a bit of light training, I finished at the Royal and I had a really good show down there," he said.

De Losa will face 15 of the highest-ranking athletes from around the country as he competes in four demanding disciplines back-to-back including the stock saw, underhand chop, single buck and standing block chop.

The fastest athlete from each match will progress to the next round, culminating in a grand final between the last two remaining competitors.

"We'll have qualifying in the morning, everyone will qualify and then we will be ranked one through to 16, the top four guys will sit out for the first round and then they join into the second round of the competition," De Losa said.

He said the qualifying was important to get into the top four position.

"So you sort of miss one round, it's very hard to compete against the top guys if you've got to do that additional round if you miss out on the top four," he said.

De Losa said he was looking forward to competing in front of a live crowd in his second biggest competition since Sydney following on from Covid-lockdown.

"It'll [St Kilda] be our second biggest competition in front of a live crowd following on from Sydney, and it should be good, it'll be good to have everyone in the one position," he said.

"Since Covid we've only had one or two small competitions leading into Sydney, as far as this year goes it's still been limited on competitions but certainly a lot more than what we had last year."

"But we've all had a bit of taste of competition," De Losa said.

De Losa finished fourth in the Australian Trophy last year but has won previously. He said St Kilda should be a "really good competition".

"I'm really looking forward to getting back out there and getting back into it.

"It would be great to win it again, this year unfortunately we won't be qualifying for any international competitions because of Covid so we'll just have the Australian championships but just to have that title under your belt... it would be nice to have another one of them," he said.

He said international competitions were a motivator when it came to training but he was still thankful to be back out on the circuit following pandemic woes.

"I suppose the incentive to travel Europe for the international competition is always a bit of a motivator for training, which unfortunately won't happen but with the circumstances there's not much we can do," he said.

Next on the calendar for De Losa will be a few smaller shows followed by the Stihl Timbersports Championships in Adelaide on August 28.

"I'll have a few weeks off after Melbourne and then I'll be back into preparing and training for Adelaide.

"It's so good to get back out on the competition circuit again," he said.

De Losa wanted to thank his friends, family and community for their continued support.

"It doesn't go unnoticed," he said.
