Police arrested Dennis Maxwell Irvin, 52, on Wednesday and he is charged with two counts of failing to stop and render assistance after a vehicle impact occasioning death, driving a vehicle while disqualified, not giving particulars to a driver and altering the concentration alcohol in blood before sampled.

NSW Police said at about 4pm a Mitsubishi Outlander, travelling north, and an Iveco tabletop truck towing a caravan, travelling south, collided on Barellan Road, Barellan, about 50 kilometres east of Griffith.

"The driver of the Iveco allegedly failed to stop and render assistance, leaving the scene," a police statement said.

"Emergency services attended and treated the Mitsubishi driver, a 33-year-old man; however, he was unable to revived and died at the scene.

"His 92-year-old passenger was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital suffering minor injuries."

Police said the 33-year-old man was from Leeton.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District established a crime scene and specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended to assist.

"Following inquiries, officers attended a Barellan property about 5.15pm and arrested a 52-year-old man," a police statement said.

"He was taken to Griffith Hospital where he underwent mandatory testing before being transferred to Griffith Police Station.

Irvin was refused bail to attend Griffith Local Court on Thursday, where he was again refused bail and will re-appear later in July.
