A warrant has been issued for an accused grave robber's arrest after he failed to show in court over allegations he removed heads from human corpses at a Melbourne cemetery.

Tristan Hearne, 40, was due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with stealing human remains from mausoleums at the Footscray General Cemetery in Yarraville.
He is facing seven charges after body parts were stolen from graves on January 28 and February 1, with detectives later uncovering them at a Footscray property.
Hearne is accused of twice removing heads from a human corpse, exhuming human remains from a place of interment on two occasions and damaging a family's mausoleum three times, court documents reveal.
When he failed to appear on Wednesday, magistrate David Langton noted he had fairly stringent bail conditions.
Among them, he was required to present to police during his curfew hours - however, police prosecutors were unsure when officers last had contact with Hearne.
The court had not heard from either Hearne or a legal representative on his behalf, and the magistrate granted prosecutors' request to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Hearne was due to appear in court for the first mention of his matter.
