This year offers of education grants have been made to 11 young people from our community – Helena McCalman, Matthew Teusner, Acacia Mannes, Ben Hogan, Shelayah McMillan, Mitchell Dunbar, Andrew Noack, Corey McMillan, Claire Chauncy, Jonathon Briggs and Adam Mannes – to help them achieve their dreams.
These young people are studying a wide range of courses including psychology, chemistry, primary teaching, nursing, apprentice mechanic and outdoor education to name a few.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEFA).
The CDP CEF is one of 45 such groups. During the past three years, CDP CEF has offered 34 grants totalling nearly $48 000 to local recipients.
These grants could not have been provided without the generosity of corporate donors, local businesses, individual donations and various fundraising activities which have been supported by our community.
Several of our donors were present on the presentation night, giving them an opportunity to meet some of the grant recipients they are helping through these education grants.
Through our membership of CEFA, Coleambally Central School students have been provided with many opportunities such as ACT University experience and offered of a wide range of scholarships.
Our grant recipients are eligible for co-funding from different institutions in their first year of a course and are notified of other scholarships for which they may be eligible.
Our community’s partnership with CEFA has indeed opened up more opportunities for our young people beyond just education grants.
If anyone is interested in joining the committee, please contact CDP CEF secretary, Elaine Clarke, for our next meeting date.
