The inaugural Darlington Point Riverina Classic Fishing Competition and combined Riverside Markets will be held this weekend.
Organiser and member of the Darlington Point Apex Club Chris Sutton said the event had taken quite a bit of work, but was sure to be a huge success.
“Everyone you speak to seems to be coming with a group of people,” Mr Sutton said.
“We wanted to organise something for the whole family and raise some money for charity as well.”
Proceeds from the event will go to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation and helping restock the Murrumbidgee River system with native fingerlings.
“We’ve put in quite a bit of work and everything seems to be falling into place,” Mr Sutton said.
“We’ve had a lot of support from local businesses.”
If you haven’t registered yet, you can do so online or at the event committee headquarters marquee located on site at the Darlington Point Riverside Caravan Park from 1pm on Friday.
Fishing commences at 6am on Saturday, April 5. Competitors may fish from a boat or the river bank. All children must wear life jackets in boats at all times.
Instant disqualification applies in the event of illegal bait or equipment being used.
Presentations will take place on the Sunday along with the major raffle draw. More than $40,000 in prizes will be given away across the weekend.
Major prizes include two complete 3.9 metre Stacer 399 Proline Angler boats with 30hp Mercury motors, trailer packages, Engel fridge, Webber barbecue and more.
There will be a barge on the water selling food and drinks.
The day will also include jumping castles, dodgem cars, a 27ft slide, face painting, river train rides and swimming.
Plenty of entertainment, market stalls, lucky dips, food stalls, giveaways, wine tasting, river walks and sausage sizzles and catering will be the order of the day.
Head on out to the river for a fantastic weekend of fun.
