Netballers taught a lesson

Likely the biggest shock of the day was the performance of the A grade team.

They came up against (as was the case in all three grades) an undefeated side.

Still, the two sides sat second and third on the ladder so a close match was to be expected.

The Blues were taught a lesson however when they were defeated 87 to 38, a disappointing result to say the least. The Brolga award for best on went to Hannah Buchanan. 

Blues coach Lauren Valenta said the result was a big wake up call.

“It was a rough weekend for us” she said.

“Now know what we are up against. Their shooters were unbelievable, I think they missed about eight shots for the entire game.”

There were some positives that Valenta took out of the game.

“Our shooters stepped it up this week with Hannah Buchanan shooting at 96 per cent,” she said. 

“Every goal we got was bloody hard work.

“We had passages of play that were fantastic which is something to take away.

“We won't be taking this loss lightly. We will now be pulling our socks up and training twice as hard to meet the two top teams that have beaten us.”

It’s safe to say Valenta never wants to experience something like that match ever again.

“Let's just say I'll be putting that loss in the 'let's never talk about that game again' part of my memory bank,” she said. “We will have another hard game next weekend but the girls are fired up and ready to prove we are tough competition.”

In the other games, the award winners for this round included Kirby Mackie receiving best on court for C Grade while Ella Painting was given the player’s player for her efforts.

A Reserve had the closest match on the day going down 62 to 45. The Brolga Voucher Best On Court was awarded to Tessa Evans.

While the Xing Loang Restaurant award was given to Emma Dunbar.

Emma then went onto back up for the A Grade match and took out this award for her effort in this game too.
