FASHION, fillies and fun will lead celebrations at this year’s Jerilderie Gold Cup.
The annual event will once again take to the track on September 17, with the call out for Coleambally and Darlington Point residents to put on their Sunday best and take part.
A six-race card will be the feature, but there will also be plenty happening off the track.
Jerilderie District Race Club secretary Alecia Williams said preparations were now in full swing.
“Everything is going really well this year,” she said.
“We’re going to have a great looking track … there’ll be no dust this year.
“We’re looking forward to a great day out.”
A big crowd is once again expected at the event, with reports of accommodation in Jerilderie already booked out.
Mrs Williams was hopeful this would mean punters would look to nearby towns, such as Coleambally, for somewhere to stay.
“We always have great support from Coly in terms of people coming to the races, as well as sponsors, so it would be great if people decided to stay in town there too.
“It’s (the races) a pretty big boost for the district’s economy.
“People do come from near and far for it.”
Fashions on the field will also be a feature on the day across the six categories of miss racegoer, junior lady of the day, lady of the day, gent of the day, couple of the day and best race head wear millinery.
“Fashions on the field has really grown in popularity in the last five years,” Mrs Williams said.
“People really dress up these days and it’s a bit of fun.
“Hopefully we have lots of entries again this year, with plenty of prizes available.”
Adding to the festivities will be a full undercover bookies ring, with local, interstate and TAB facilities available. There will also be catering and drink options available throughout the day.
Those looking to book a marquee can do so by calling Carson Thomas on 0429 859 220.
Gates open at the Jerilderie Racecourse on September 17 from 11am to 7pm.
Entry is $20 per person, with under 17s free.
