A stakeholder meeting will be held on June 1 at 12.30pm at Yarrow Park Cellar Door, Kyola Rd, Coleambally.
Murrumbidgee Council’s economic, tourism and community development manager Gerrie Carr-MacFie said a collaborative effort was needed to increase the value and contribution of tourism to the region.
“Council is committed to working with business, community and government to grow Murrumbidgee as a visitor destination,” she said.
“Local representation committee (LRC) chair Ruth McRae has been doing a sterling job representing the interests of our region.
“We need a renewed commitment from businesses to grab opportunities and grow the visitor industry across Murrumbidgee Council area as a partnership.
“A good start to working smarter is to set some structure around information sharing, familiarising ourselves with the visitor product that is already in the Murrumbidgee area, and increasing co-operation between businesses.
“With the merger, we now have an even broader offering to entice visitors and new business opportunities to our region.”
The first stakeholder meeting at Yarrow Park will include:
- Council Tourism Update including Murrumbidgee Tracks and Trails activities, Economic Development Strategy, Visitor Information collateral.
- Briefing on the establishment of Destination New South Wales and the activities of State Government in promoting regional tourism.
- Update on Riverina Tourism.
- A briefing on the Taste of Riverina festival including opportunities to participate in events.
- Update on Newell Highway promotion and Kidman Way promotion.
- Building a database of contacts.
