Committee President Shirley Norris-Kennedy said the exhibit’s highlight was a model of the buildings of Warangesda Aboriginal Mission, created by descendants of some of the mission’s residents.
“We went out into the community and asked for their donations and the Edwards family were kind enough to lend the model for the exhibit,” she said.
“It’s so significant to our area. We have a large population of Aboriginal descendants and aboriginal people. I think it’s very important that we hold onto their history. It’s important to them and we’re happy to assist.”
The exhibit included a display of traditional Russian costumes, photographs of Tubbo Station in the 1940s and 1950s and a selection of Aboriginal artifacts on loan from Darlington Public Point School.
Ms Norris Kennedy said the exhibition was still on show for anyone interested.
“We had about 50 people come through on the opening day. Since then, we’ve had a few different groups come along and take a look.”
